Cataract formation Espanol
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's lens that can cause vision problems. Scientists think there may be several causes, including smoking, diabetes, and excessive exposure to sunlight. More than half of all Americans age 65 and older have a cataract and at a certain point surgery may be needed to improve vision.

Cataract surgery Espanol
Cataract surgery is performed with an operation called Phacoemulsification (Phaco) which is usually performed under topical eye drop anesthesia. After the cloudy cataract has been removed, an artificial lens is typically folded into the eye. This is called an intra ocular implant (IOL) which serves to re-establish the optical properties of the cataract lens that was removed.
