Premium Implant FAQs

Q.

What are the Premium Implant costs?

A.

A screening for Premium Implants is available at no cost. This involves measuring optical properties of your eye such as the correction in your current glasses, the curvature of you eye, pupil size and other measurements that do not involve eyedrops. The complete premium implant workup, which includes an examination with eyedrops lasts about 30 - 45 minutes and may be covered by most insurances. Depending if you have an associated clinically significant cataract or not the costs for a premium implant insertion range from $1,750.00 to $4,500.00 per eye. The fee is a global fee for the primary surgery , which includes all preoperative testing and postoperative office care . If there are additional enhancements at a surgery center or outpatient facility there may be additional charges.
Please ask for detatils.

Q.

Can all eyes and prescriptions be treated with Premium Implants?

A.

No. Premium Implants might not be advisable if there are certain medical eye conditions. This is why a comprehensive eye exam will be performed after the screening process to identify and discuss alternatives. Also there are limits to the amount of correction we can offer a patient with Premium Implants. If a patient is at the extremes sometimes combination Premium Implants surgeries with Laser Vision might be an option.

Q.

Does insurance cover Premium Implants?

A.

As a general rule most insurances will cover a clinically significant cataract in which case the lens removal portion of surgery and the associated anesthesia costs and facility fees should be covered by your insurance plan. The cost of a Premium Implants is considered elective and therefore patient responsibility. If however you do not have a cataract then the associated surgical costs become your responsibility. On the other hand certain flex spending accounts will authorize payment for Premium Implant operations. If there are any eligibility questions our office will be happy to help you with your inquiries.

A.

No.Premium Implant surgery is essentially the same as standard surgery with the exception that the implant inserted is a Premium Implant rather than a standard one.

Q.

What is an enhancement?

A.

A. Premium bifocal implant surgery is the surgical replacement of your intraocular natural lens with a premium implant. As with any operation healing depends on personal factors and over and under corrections may develop. An enhancement is the need to refine your optical correction and is performed as a secondary correction. An enhancement may be a external ocular correction such as Laser Vision or the need to reenter your eye for an implant exchange.
